Final Honors Paid to Dead Winchester Official
The funeral of J. Luther Maphis, late commissioner of the revenue for Winchester, who died of heart failure, was held at 3 30 this afternoon from his North Main Street home. Delegations from City Council, city officials, Kiwanis, Charley Rouss Fire Company, Elks, Royal Arcanum, Grace Lutheran Church, and others attended. The service, led by Rev. A A Kelly, included hymns by a quartet. City offices closed during the services. A City Council meeting honored him earlier, and a committee was named to represent Winchester at the funeral. Interment will be at Mount Hebron Cemetery with pallbearers listed.
