MA Winchester reports on a weekend drive along the Skyline Drive after the northern section opened. Fog warnings did not deter numerous cars and picnic parties while signs remained visible and the scenery varied as sun broke through. Drivers praised careful speeds and noted absence of trucks and billboards. Weather improved on return from Big Meadows with clearer views of valleys and canyons.
The British press speculates Ambassador Robert Worth Bingham will be replaced as ambassador to the United Kingdom. Reynolds News and Evening News say Joseph E. Davies, current ambassador to Soviet Russia, would succeed him after Bingham departed last week.
Storm warning flags cover more than 300 miles of coast from Vero Beach Florida to Savannah Georgia as a tropical disturbance nears land. Forecasters expect a crossing between Titusville and Brunswick with 50 mile per hour squalls near the center and strong winds and rain elsewhere. Northeast storm warnings ordered. vessels urged to seek shelter.

A Washington car crash near the Old Stone Shop north of Strasburg killed Hunter M. Bowman and injured six others. The victims include Ben Swann and Lawrence Price and family members from Edinburg and nearby. Police cited wet roads and drunken driving as factors in the series of crashes.
Frank Feinberg Farmville clothing merchant has returned from Europe with a 150000 prize from the Irish sweepstakes. He plans visits to Winchester and Baltimore before returning to Farmville to open a new store. Feinberg says the thrill has worn off and he wishes for life of peace if not widely recognized. He traveled with nephew and niece E Wineburg and family. The party toured Ireland England and France during the trip.
W S Campfield warns apple growers at Byrd orchard picnic against selling too cheap amid publicity boosting apple demand. He notes the crop may reach 30 to 32 million barrels, with factors easing pressure from pests and shifts in export demand. Publicity campaigns are planned to revive apple consumption and stabilize prices.
Secretary Hull said he instructed Ambassador Johnson to protest to China over the President Hoover bombing. He noted U S merchant ships may stop calling at Shanghai amid war conditions, with the Asiatic fleet ordering the Hoover toward Kobe and no firm guidance on other Dollar Line ships avoiding the port.
N G Harris director of the British American Tobacco Company was reported missing from the Dollar liner President Hoover after a bombing off the Yangtze lighthouse. A CIO strike threat could block the government owned freighter Wichita from delivering bombing planes and barbed wire to China amid Sino Japanese hostilities. Ralph Emerson of the National Maritime Union predicts a sit down by seamen and expects the Maritime Commission to act to halt the voyage.
Robert G. Clevenger, longtime farmer from the Grimes section of Frederick County, died at his home after a long illness in his seventy third year. A lifelong resident, he belonged to Galilee Church of the Disciples of Christ since youth. His wife Mrs. A Clevenger died May 21. James Porter of Louisville Kentucky was held for investigation and for a hearing on charges of panhandling resisting arrest and using abusive language. Capt Thomas Boyd ordered Sergeant B Cline to bring Porter to the station house. Porter was found near Farmers and Merchants Bank and taken into custody. While along Rouss avenue he kicked Cline, threw him to the ground, and fled. Cline's knee was injured.
