Smith Escapes Injury in Plane Mishap

Del Atson Smith his wife Margarette and Mr and Mrs John McIntosh of Clarke County escaped serious injury when a rented 1972 Piper Cherokee 180 crashed on takeoff near Urbanna after losing power. The plane struck a fence flipped and ended upside down. McIntosh piloted the craft. All occupants exited shaken but unhurt and spent the night in a motel before continuing to Virginia Beach by car.
