Italian Legation ships official records and office effects by train to Djibouti as foreign and native Ethiopians exchange money. British navy plans intensify as Premier Mussolini notes missions, with newspaper correspondents joining lunch after war games.
In Addis Ababa reports say thousands of Somali troops fled Italian Somaliland into Ethiopia and Italy pressed for the return of rifles. Foreign exchange rush at the National Bank ends with limited operations as guards restore order. Over 100 Greeks Italians and Armenians depart. train farewells occur at the station. The Italian legation ships records to Djibouti and Ethiopians see withdrawal signs.

The City of Winchester forwarded an application for 17000 in WPA funds to build a storm sewer from Handley School neighborhood along Valley Avenue to Gerrard Street and Town Run. It would collect water from Handley Cameron Main Stewart and Washington streets and convey it underground.
Workers who enter many homes in Winchester urge action to correct conditions favorable to fly breeding. Health authorities have warned of flyborne danger to households and the community. Officials call for broad cooperation in this important local project.

Four state police officers were in the city this morning to check brakes and lights and to inspect operator permits on principal highways. They warned violators face misdemeanor charges and emphasized the cost of an auto repair and court summons may be higher than a fix. Officers named were Lieut. J.O. Bingham Appomattox E. E. Keyser Marrisonburg C. L. Fuller Woodstock and R. E. Bayliss Winchester.
About 600 feet of sewer pipe has been installed on Jefferson Street between Valley Avenue and Handley High School to drain the Handley cafeteria. After completion the project will enable curb to curb 30 foot paving and ease traffic around the Handley building, spurring residential site development.
A coast guard boat aided the lumber barge Rosenia of Baltimore after RCA picked up a distress message from the steamer Horace Luckenbach reporting danger of sinking. A second item warns about a stolen Columbia bicycle taken from an alley near L. R. Smith, Inc. and the 10c store, with instructions to return it to the police station.

A man answering the description of William Mahan, sought in the George Weyerhaeuser kidnapping, was arrested in Helena and identified as Les McGowan. A companion escaped. another man named Millard Acklen was taken into custody. Police note Mahan remains at large. In Westminster, Maryland, a gasoline attendant said he recognized a drab motorist as Mahan and was called to Baltimore for a federal conference.
Mrs. John Clark, 67, of Norfolk Virginia, died when an automobile struck a telephone pole near White Oak Maryland before noon. Her brother-in-law and sister, Mr and Mrs Harry Stabler of Spencerville, were severely injured. Henry R Stabler, 40, a son, escaped harm. Alexander Graham of Baltimore drove the other car.

Dr Sidney B Hall, state superintendent, said infantile paralysis outbreak in Virginia is waning and most public schools are expected to open on time. Reports from cities confirm poliomyelitis subsiding except possibly Albemarle and Alleghany counties. Dr J C Riggin, state health commissioner, called the situation encouraging and noted the peak was reached early this month.
State Health and Game officials report pollution from National Fruit Product Company by product vats at the Wadesville Winchester area. Recommendations to improve disposal of apple by products are to be put into effect immediately to prevent further fish kills along Opequon Creek to West Virginia.
Invitations go to Virginia VFW posts urging attendance at the fourth district rally in Winchester on Sunday September 1. National Commander James E Van Zand will speak with H MacGregor Smith of Lynchburg and Dr C R Anderson delivering welcomes. Visitors from Virginia West Virginia Maryland and the District of Columbia are expected to exceed 790 attendees.
