Lacy Sargent of Reliance was arrested Saturday night by Deputy Sheriff J W Newcome and state policeman R E Bayliss. He was seized near Stewart's filling station south of Middletown. Sargent is charged with stealing chickens from Ed Little east of Reliance in Warren county and is said to have sold them to a Middletown dealer. He is turned over to Warren county authorities for a probable hearing today.
CAPE MAY N J Aug 26 Mrs James Elliott of Baltimore was killed today in an automobile collision at a street intersection near the beach. She was thrown from her car its head struck the curb when it collided with a car driven by Mrs Margaret Vargo of Huntington W Va Mrs Vargo was unhurt.
A large bank barn and outbuildings on the Charles W. Snapp farm near Opequon were burned Sunday causing an estimated $10,000 loss. Most livestock were saved and the cause is believed to be spontaneous combustion. Firefighters faced water shortages, using a well to defend nearby structures while a crowd of volunteers helped.
Grandparents of Macra Thompson the five year old heiress to a million dollar Thompson estate announced they located her in Jemez Springs near Albuquerque New Mexico. They had reported her missing after her father Edwin De Groot Thompson was last seen in Albuquerque. The child was found in the care of Jack Cleary a rancher neighbor of Thompson.
Washington August 26 Representative Lemke predicted President Roosevelt will sign the Frazier Lemke farm moratorium bill within a day or so. He stated he had word the measure would receive presidential attention very soon.
Col Bryan Conrad and other observers attack a Virginia travelogue julep sequence. They fault using too little mint, sugar granules, shaved ice, measured whiskey, torn mint leaves, and paper sip pers. They call it sacrilege and vow to defend traditional julep practice.
Albert D. Cline, 30, a Winchester native and son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Rainsberger, died in New York after a plunge from a YMCA building window. A note to his wife cited unemployment and charity as causes. He leaves a seven year old son and a widow, who traveled to New York for the funeral.
Senator Harry F. Byrd proposes a new national park covering about 50 000 acres in the High Knob region of Scott and Wise counties Virginia. The bill aims to preserve a scenic area offering views into Virginia Tennessee Kentucky and North Carolina.

William H. Allen, 33, a Washington Post Office employee, was killed when the car carrying Maynard F Saunders and Emily Jones overturned after swerving to pass another vehicle. Saunders and Jones survived with minor injuries. Allen died at the scene and was taken to Parlet morgue. Saunders faces a hearing Thursday before Justice A. J. Tavenner. State Inspector Raymond Bayliss noted about $150 damage to the vehicle, which was sent to Shenandoah Motor Company for repairs. The party was returning from Tokus Inn at Opeation, wearing well-dressed, prosperous appearance.

A Braddock Street Methodist event adopted a resolution urging President Roosevelt to call a special session of Congress to press signatory nations to meet obligations under the Pact of Paris. Led by Rev William Sheafe Chase the gathering urged strong action on world peace and cited the pact’s continued binding status.
The Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond reported July sales in 31 Fifth district department stores 16.1 percent higher than July last year. Richmond up 10.4 percent, Baltimore 8.4 percent, Washington 27.2 percent, other cities 7.9 percent.
Mrs. George Howland Stoddard formerly Miss Celine Sheffield of Farmville Virginia died in the American Hospital Paris after a long illness. Her daughters Miss Margaret Stoddard of Boston and Mrs Henry R Hayes of New York were at her bedside.
Marshall Adams colored, an orderly at Winchester Memorial Hospital, is in serious condition after an automobile accident near Edinburg last Friday. He arrived at the local hospital Saturday morning with a punctured chest wound and one lung nearly exposed.

Willys a longtime-auto industry leader and Hoover era ambassador to Poland died in his Bronx summer home at age 61 after a heart attack in May and a second attack last week His marriages included Isabel Van Wie and Florence Deland and he had a daughter Virginia Willys Delanda Willys founded Willys Overland and later sold holdings in 1929 His career spanned leadership in the Willys-Overland company and role in the Automobile Chamber of Commerce
An automobile collision on the Martinsburg Pike Saturday night was ruled unavoidable at a hearing before Trial Justice A. J. Tavenner. Evidence pointed to a third party from Ohio as the proximate cause as Leslie Borden attempted to pass. the Ohio driver sped up, placing Borden in the other car's path. Raymond Slonaker, driving the opposite vehicle, escaped injury but was fined $10.25 for using West Virginia dealer's tags since June 15.
