Winchester delegates to the Virginia State Firemen's Association convention will depart Monday for Phoebus Virginia to attend the opening session. Fred W. Garney G Reginald Haines from Friendship Fire Company and W W Glass John H Geal Jr and Lee Lamp from Rouss Fire Company will urge Winchester as the 1931 convention site in conjunction with the Cumberland Women’s Association meeting. Firemen Appeal Merchants to Close for Labor Day Picnic
A Friendship Fire Company committee will visit Winchester merchants starting Monday to request closing shops on Labor Day so clerks and families can attend the Friendship picnic at Fisher's Hill. Organizers expect the event to be the largest yet with wide attendance from nearby towns. A 75 cent round trip bus rate from Winchester is offered for those without cars.

Field Artillery Battery Arrives for Winchester Fair
Field Artillery Battery A Sixth U S Army from Fort Hoyle Md arrives in Winchester this afternoon to perform at the Greater Winchester Fair. Commanded by Capt B R Woodruff the unit of about 70 men with four guns four tractors and support vehicles will camp on the fair grounds and conduct daily maneuvers exhibitions in front of the grandstand using modern motorized equipment.

Moonshine sale foiled at Elm Tree Tryst
C F Hottel, a day industry worker and night bootleg clerk, was jailed after three state prohibition officers trapped him selling two pints and arranging a five gallon moonshine sale under the elm on the Northwestern pike.
