Death of Corporal J. Leo Clements at Brownsville Depot
In Brownsville Texas Corporal J Leo Clements of the Warrenton Rifles is killed while on guard duty at the quartermaster depot. Carl Dandies formerly of the regulars now a carpenter at the depot, confessed to the murder after attempting suicide thrice. Dunches ambled into a nearby house causing a disturbance involving a Mexican girl before the shooting. Dunches later died while in escape but surrendered to civil authorities and admitted the crime.
