Consumers Utilities Co will cease distributing gas to about 850 customers as of midnight August 31 after a State Corporation Commission order. The move follows a city council finding the system unsafe after a June Raylss store explosion that killed one and injured many. Bottled gas firms in nearby towns seek converts while two more local suppliers advertise for customers.
