A massive blaze engulfed a Brooklyn waterfront area as the Panuco burned and sank, with 26 rescued from the East River and 3 confirmed dead. Fire and explosions damaged pier 27 and nearby vessels, injuring an estimated 55 people and forcing hospital evacuations.
Reports from Shanghai say three guards of Wang Ching Wei were shot dead and a fourth wounded in an attack on his Nanking residence. The assault is blamed on Japanese sponsors warning him against missteps in dealings with Japan. No confirmation from Japanese army press.
