Sergeant Elon Hummer of the Alexandria VA police, 32, died after being shot during a pursuit of a would be robber near the Fearson shoe shop on Duke Street. The gunman fled and was being watched by police. multiple shots were exchanged and arrests were expected soon. The incident occurred around 1 o'clock in the morning in the heart of the Duke Street business district. Mr Nicklin and his wife, nearby residents, were awakened by the gunfire.

Rev Sumner Harper a colored minister from Lynchburg Virginia is in Memorial Hospital after a collision on the Valley pike between Stephens City and Kernstown.
