The Associated Press dispatches say Dundalk has been retaken by national army troops from irregular forces. Several hundred irregulars were captured as the town was recaptured during ongoing operations in New York.
Anthracite miners expected to return to work following a Philadelphia conference between operators and the miners committee. The 1921 wage scale and pay increases were debated as mines were in poor condition after a long shutdown. returns could be delayed by a month to six weeks, possibly not before October. Harding deferred his congressional address on the industrial situation until tomorrow. Charleston WV directors agree to a wage conference with United Mine Workers.
Pauline Lineweaver infant daughter of Burland Grace Strosnider Lineweaver formerly of Shenandoah County but now living at Fawcett County died yesterday. Funeral took place today at Fawcett. Mr and Mrs Osmar Swanson have gone on a several weeks visit to relatives and friends in Philadelphia.
Prohibition officers uncovered around twenty Chinese suspected of being smuggled into the United States through Norfolk. They were located near Petersburg during a liquor raid and are held in jail pending immigration inquiry.
William Randolph Hearst stated in the New York Evening Journal he would not run for governor. He offered to accept any other place on the Democratic ticket if Mayor Hylan were nominated.
In Jackson Mississippi on August 17 campaign managers for former Senator James K Vardaman and H D Stephens prepared for a party endorsement run off after unofficial returns showed Vardaman leading but not winning a plurality. Belle Kearney’s about 17 000 votes in a three cornered race shifted the contest into a second primary.
Search was under way for Albert White in connection with the slayings of Tobe and Dorr Payne on the Greenbriar road near Richwood West Virginia last night. Both victims had four bullet wounds and White reportedly had an altercation with the Paynes shortly before their bodies were found.
Eight delegates from Robert Y. Conrad Post No 21 will attend the Virginia department Legion convention in Charlottesville from the 24th to 26th. Delegates include W. A. Baker, Clifford D. Grimm, Capt. George H. Grimm, Grover C Sehlack, Edmund C. Lupton, Major R. T. Barton, A. L. Coble and Roger Kline. Major Barton serves on the national executive committee. A varied entertainment program is planned with visits to the University of Virginia Monticello and Fry's Springs after business sessions.
E. E. Cooley, sought by police here and in Winchester, was arrested after selling a Ford to Harry Sterling of Martinsburg without a clear title. He bought it from Winchester dealers last August, made a small payment, then sold it locally with the belief it belonged to him. The car has reportedly changed hands since.
The funeral of Viscount Northcliffe was solemnized today in Westminster Abbey. A large crowd attended with the Dean of Westminster asking Lady Northcliffe for the Abbey rites. Among mourners was American Ambassador George Harvey and numerous other notables.
The seventy third annual Valley district conven tion of the Disciples of Christ gathers in Ebenezer near Gore with many delegates expected to arrive today and tomorrow. Local residents host visitors with home cooked meals and festive entertainment as the program outlines devotional services Bible school sessions and sermons through Sunday August 20.
Contributed. John Handley Rotary Camp is occupied this week by a group of girls directed by the auxiliary committee of the boys committee of the local Rotary Club. Reports from the camp are favorable as the girls enjoy the outing to the limit. Winchester women direct the camp with Miss Mary Catherine Autick in charge of athletics and Miss Louise Cooper assisting. Opal Robinson handles purchasing and daily menus. Lucy Kurtz was chap eron initially, with Mrs H D Fuller and Mrs A L Green aiding in starting the outing. Clarence Woods and Katherine Allebach also assist as chaperons and instructors in first aid.
An order in the Corporation Court appoints Adam Forney city sergeant as committee administrator of Ellis Jones deceased, W W R Jones deceased, and Edward Jones deceased with will annexed. He was appointed on motion of James H. Jones one of the heirs.
Representative Charles L. Knight of Ohio announced his resignation from the House saying he cannot support the Harding administration policies. He viewed the Ohio primary as an administration endorsement and cited opposition to tariffs ship subsidy and other measures backed by the administration.
Subscribers holding shares in the George Washington Hotel Company are invited to attend a six thirty o'clock supper tonight on the third floor of the Farmers and Merchants National Bank Building. In New York at the Wigwam on Fourteenth Street, Big Chief Charles F. Murphy introduced a resolution urging New York County Democratic congressional candidates to back any move to modify the Volstead act to restore less potent liquors. The executive committee adopted the measure unanimously.
Penrod by Booth Tarkington drew large crowds, prompting a second showing at the Empire tomorrow Friday at three o clock. Prices 5 and 19 cents for children and 15 and 25 cents for adults. Also Friday night features Katherine MacDonald.

The state plans toll roads from Opequon to the Shenandoah River via Boyce and Millwood, and from Millwood through Berryville to the West Virginia line. Part of the Lee-J Highway, the route aims to cut travel to Washington by about 70 miles, boost tourism, and make Winchester a major junction. Construction will begin soon.
Henry G. Shirley chairman of the State Highway Commission in Winchester outlined plans to transfer maintenance and construction of the Berryville to West Virginia road and the Millwood to Shenandoah River route to the state. Clarke County officials would be asked to approve a transfer, tollgates at Berry’s Ferry to be removed, and the bridge to be state maintained. The move aims to save tolls, improve road conditions, and accelerate resurfacing with a mineral binder, boosting tourist travel and linking Winchester to Washington via the Lee Jackson Highway.
