Bell Telephone Laboratories in Holmdel New Jersey and Goldstone California staged the first live two way telephone conversation via the Echo I satellite. Signals bounced about 1000 miles in space while Alpha Corp Cedar Rapids Iowa linked with Collins Radio Cedar Rapids Iowa for a longer chat.

Garland B Poland of 118% East Cork owned the parked car damaged near Clifford intersection.
A head on collision near Worthington Minnesota killed nine of ten occupants. Six victims were mothers with 38 children left behind. One car caught fire, leaving one person unrecognizable. The sole survivor Mrs Ernie Lueck was hospitalized in serious condition.
Sara Dela no Roosevelt 13, daughter of John A. Roosevelt and granddaughter of Franklin D. Roosevelt, died from a brain hemorrhage after fainting on a mountain trail during a camp stay in the Adirondacks. Police and coroner cited unclear cause, with possible horse fall or hiking spill.
A Red Cross survey indicates that 118 homes in Richmond West End and Lakeside suffered flood damage with totals likely over 200000 dollars. The inundation followed four inches of rain and disrupted the West End area during remodeling. Dr. Charles E. Johnston notes the report.

Oliver W Powers arrived in Moscow to attend the espionage trial of his son Francis Gary Powers and said he will request a direct meeting with Premier Nikita Khrushchev. He spoke tearfully at a news conference and described his son as a working man’s child seeking peace and united in opposition to nuclear war.
Washington ordered the expulsion of Soviet Embassy first secretary Valentine M. Ivanov for allegedly paying substantial sums to a U S citizen to help him obtain a government job. The action followed claims of identity concealment and contacts with business firms. Ivanov denied the allegations as an invention.
The State Game Commission took no action on proposed changes from the Izaak Walton League. The meeting adjourned after 1 am. Executive director C F Phelps said changes will be considered in March or April. John Kane urged a uniform eastern west boundary of the Blue Ridge and a longer bow season. Fox hunting was allowed on the Nourse estate in Essex County. Bear kills limited to one per season. The meeting was chaired by W Stras Jr. all attended except two members.
