Champion Barrow Brings Record Price at Virginia Hog Show
A grand champion barrow owned by G A Barrow & Sons of Smithfield sold for 2.69 a pound, the highest price in Virginia for a pig at a hog show and sale in Courtland. The 200 pound pig brought 538 dollars and was bought by Gwaltney, Inc. of Smithfield.

Walton League pushes changes to snow hunting rules
At the state Game Commission meeting the Izaak Walton League urged repeal of the snow hunting prohibition citing uneven snow depth. John Kane asked for a uniform season east and west of the Blue Ridge and a longer bow season for deer bear turkey and small game. The commission noted prior repeal pressures and held closed session after a two hour open session attended by 26 people and game wardens. Atlas Nose Cone Lost After Successful Atlas Flight

Car Plunges Off Route 50 in Paris Mountain Wreck
A 1952 Chevrolet left Route 50 west of Paris Mountain just after 11 am with a driver. State Police Winchester Rescue Squad and wrecking crew found no one at the scene until Miss Leannan of Herndon arrived to explain a right rear tire blew, sending the car across the road into a tree. The impact broke the plunge and prevented multiple rollovers. the total wreck was blamed on the blowout.
