The Produce News reports a potential 1935 apple harvest of about 34 million barrels nationwide, above 1934 and 1933. Virginia shows strong results while Northwestern production remains steady. July 1 government figures estimate 170,232,000 bushels or 56,750,000 barrels.
Word reached here of the death at his home in Keyser West Virginia yesterday of William H McIlwee father of Prof W McIlwee a well known Winchester ndt master and music teacher Prof and Mrs McIlwee and their daughter left yesterday to attend the funeral in Keyser Details of the death were not available here today
Mr Winchester notes hog prices keep producers from red ink while consumers face sharply higher dressed meat costs. He predicts continued price gains for about sixty days and then a high plateau for six months, raising questions on where each dollar goes among producer, packer, railroads, and retailer.

William Samuel Yates 54 of Middletown died at Memorial Hospital from complications after injuries on July 27 when knocked from a Baltimore and Ohio freight car. He suffered a compound leg fracture, later an amputation, and gangrene. He leaves wife Eleanor Mitchell, daughter Madelyn, brothers D C and H N Yates, sister Mrs Lloyd C Willey. funeral Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in Middletown.
The Winchester Little Theatre will air two scenes from Mary the Third on WJEJ tomorrow at 2 PM marking the companys first radio broadcasting. Tucker McGuire Joe Thomas and Bee Elting perform the two scenes in advance of Friday’s Capitol Theatre show. Miss McGuire has prior Lux Hour broadcasting experience.
J Wilbur Tidler resigns as Kernstown graded school principal to become principal of the high and graded school at Stafford Court House Virginia Route 1 ten miles north of Fredericksburg. The Stafford post pays over twice his current salary and oversees about 400 pupils.
The Winchester Park Association plans an 8 o'clock meeting in City Hall Police Court room. All members urged to attend.
Dr. Edith McBride-Dexter said District of Columbia and Virginia troops would be barred from encamping at Mount Gretna and Indiantown Gap in August due to infantile paralysis outbreaks. A conference with Adjutant General Kerr and Virginia officials was delayed as Governor Earle returned from vacation and did not comment.
May permit data from the U S Department of Labor show Winchester ranking sixth in Virginia for building permits and first among similarly sized cities. Total value was 18000 dollars with 12500 for new three family residential buildings and 5500 for non residential projects. Richmond led the state with 174942 dollars. Other cities listed include Alexandria Charlottesville Danville Hopewell Lynchburg Newport News Norfolk Petersburg Portsmouth Roanoke Staunton Suffolk.
Boston August 12 The state health department reports 176 infantile paralysis cases in Massachusetts with 16 new weekend additions. One death is listed from Haverhill.
Washington August 12 The Guffey coal stabilization bill passed the House Ways and Means Committee by a 12 to 11 vote with two members recording present.
In Cario Egypt on August 12 a sailing boat was wrecked and sunk after a truck skidded along a canal and fell onto the boat. Twenty persons were drowned and an unknown number were injured.
HORNAFJORD Iceland Aug 12 Thor Solberg, flying from America along Leif Erikson’s original route, waited for better weather for the final leg to Bergen. He arrived yesterday from Reykjavik.
A Federal Relief Administration report says unwillingness to work rarely causes relief client refusals. The Allegheny county Virginia study notes effective safeguards curb abuse. Winchester county shows only two refusals in six months and two denials for job refusals.
Chicago August 12. Joe McCarthy of the New York Yankees and Joe Cronin of the Boston Red Sox were fined $100 each by American League president William Harridge for using stalling tactics during the August 5 game in Boston.

A Rome dispatch says Italy mobilizes 500000 troops for northern maneuvers on August 24 bringing total army near one million. Mussolini may strike East Africa later this month with full mobilization. Haile Selassie seeks sea outlet and aid, while others doubt a ceded territory offer.
Four men were killed when a plane crashed near Worthington Minnesota as a wing collapsed. The wreckage caught fire in a cornfield and burned the bodies of the victims. Pilot Ernest Boots of Rushmore and passengers Pete Lefranze Fergus Falls Glenn Rue Jamestown North Dakota and Charles Kruger of Jamestown were among the dead. Lefranz had been giving sightseers rides during the airport dedication.
The Agriculture Department reported that a severe England freeze last spring lifted demand for early apples from the Shenandoah Cumberland district, including Virginia Maryland West Virginia and Pennsylvania. August crop reports put the Shenandoah Cumberland total at about 169 million bushels, up from 121 million last year, with August forecasts five percent above the five year average. Heat in mid July caused sun scale and burn in orchards in Washington Oregon and other states, with rainfall shortages noted in Virginia Maryland West Virginia Missouri and Kansas.
Alexander Rogers, manager at Downing farm near Front Royal, sent in a remarkable photo of a potato that grew around a buried cistern chain link. The tuber wrapped itself around a book at the chain end in the garden.
Mrs. Mary Be Hudson widow of Albert V. Hudson prominent Frederick County fruit grower died at 1 pm at her Albion home after months of illness in the eighty fifth year. Survived by son Lewis A. Hudson and four daughters, eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters. Funeral Tuesday with service at the home then First Baptist Church, Rev. O T Clark and Rev. C B Seastrunk. interment Mount Hebron Cemetery.
Andrew Bell of the Winchester Chamber of Commerce learned from Edgar C. Bye that 35 teachers enrolled at the New Jersey State Teachers College will arrive tonight for a city tour. A guided visit is set for tomorrow morning at 8 o'clock including Handley school. The area received over 60 inquiries about Winchester and vicinity from Shenandoah Valley Inc and 145 requests from the State Conservation and Development Commission, including one from Shuji Suzuki, editor of Tokyo Japan New Liberalism Association.
Mr and Mrs Benny Sager of this city were in a car crash near Fairfax while en route to Baltimore to visit Mr Sager's father in a hospital. A car cut across the road forcing Sager to swerve up a bank. his car overturned twice and was wrecked. Mrs Sager suffered facial cuts and bruises while Mr Sager had a cut on the neck.
William 3B. McIntire suffered a deep cut to his left index finger while selecting wood. He was rushed to the hospital and the finger was sewn back in place, with expectations of satisfactory healing.
The Winchester and Frederick County Young Democrats convene at 8 P M on Monday August 12 1935 in the City Council Chamber. Audience urged to attend to elect officers and plan for the State Convention in Richmond Va September 13 and 14 1935.
The 86th annual Disciples of Christ valley district convention opens tomorrow at Ebenezer church near Gore. Rev J Mitchell Hoye of Woodstock presides. Rev S J Good is pastor. About 250 expected to register. Events run through Thursday with lectures, devotions, reports, and a Sunday school session.
