London dispatch reports Ethiopia has armed 250000 troops and plans seven armies totaling 600000 in case of war with Italy. Crown Prince Asfa Wusen named among six divisional commanders as Ethiopia stockpiles rifles autos and cannons while Italian actions intensify in East Africa.
Gov Winchester endorses night school for first offenders in Virginia cities to teach traffic code and safety with the goal of reducing future accidents and resource drain. Also notes the 60th wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs J C Davis as a civic example.
Mr. Howard, vocational supervisor of agriculture for northern Virginia for ten years, is appointed acting state supervisor of vocational agricultural education. He will replace Dr. Walter S. Newnan, newly named director for Virginia of the national youth administration, and take charge about August 15.
D. J. Howard announced from Winchester that Northern Virginia will keep its supervisor of vocational agriculture. He explained a Richmond misquote had suggested the position would be absorbed by other district supervisors. Dr. Sidney B. Hall confirmed the local post remains filled and not consolidated.
Avra M. Warren from Ellicott City Maryland, consul-general at Buenos Aires, ordered to report to Washington for assignment as foreign service inspector. Also Francis H. Styles from Falls Church Virginia transferred to Halifax Nova Scotia to become consul-general, previously consul at Sidney Nova Scotia.
The Rev Dr Charles A Freed former Grace Lutheran pastor and president of the Lutheran Theological Seminary in South Carolina will teach Grace Church Men s Bible Class at 945 tomorrow morning. He will also preach the 11 o clock service. All men not affiliated are invited to attend.

The Senate finance committee proposed higher taxes on low and middle incomes by cutting exemptions and raising sur taxes and estate taxes. It would start fur-taxes at 3000 net income, raise rates to 75 percent on top incomes, and increase estate levies with a 400 million revenue target, replacing House plans.
Altoona Pennsylvania August 10. The 100 mile auto race was postponed for the third time due to rain. Officials said it will be held tomorrow afternoon if possible. Rain began around noon after only six of nineteen drivers completed their qualifying runs. The damp track and weather forced officials to call the drivers in and cancel today’s program.
Washington weather outlook for the week flags local showers about Tuesday and again about Friday in the Worth and Middle Atlantic states. The period should be moderately warmer most days, with a cooler spell expected Wednesday night.

T Whitacre district garle supervisor for West Virginia visited the city yesterday to probe the dumping of plant waste water that killed thousands of fish in Opequon Creek. The pollution traveled from Virginia into West Virginia as the stream flows northeast toward the Potomac River near Shepherdstown.

The Pan American clipper landed in Honolulu at 8:09 a.m. Pacific time, shaving 50 minutes off the California to Hawaii record with a 17 hours 09 minutes flight. The flight, reaching 1300 to 11000 feet, used detours to check air conditions and weather on the 2400 mile Pacific route. The crew reported all clear with final log messages reading all O K.

Mrs. Lucie Estes Vaughan died at age 102 at her Lynchburg home. She celebrated her 100th birthday April 19, 1934. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. D. H. Howard and Mrs. Janie Vaughn Hudson, both of Lynchburg.
