Officials in Texas Virginia and Alabama studied government suits to abolish the poll tax today as they weighed possible actions. President Johnson in Texas led discussions on the issue and potential legal avenues.
The Frederick County Agricultural Stabilization and Conserva tion office prepared to administer an emergency drought assistance phase and requested another. Officials reported word on diverted acres under Conservation Reserve and Feed Grain programs, with forms for release and reduced payments. The county drought committee urged approval by the State Drought Disaster Committee for livestock, feed programs, and hay harvesting on diverted land, marking the first three counties to be approved this year.
