Middletown Couple Injured in Route 11 Crash

Mr and Mrs James Wise of a mile north of Middletown were injured when their 1938 Dodge overturned on Route 11 after a tractor trailer crowded them off the hard surface. They were taken to Winchester Memorial Hospital by Friendship ambulance for x rays and treatment. Mr Wise is a retired farmer.

Convicts Reported Captured After Escape near Berryville

Two Black convicts escaped Sunday from State Road Camp 22 near Berryville have been captured. One was seized at Eastville in Northampton County and the other in Princess Anne County. They are Joseph N. Mitchell of Portsmouth and James Allen Smith of Suffolk. A 1941 Chevrolet stolen from Berryville resident James Lewis Willis was abandoned in Suffolk. Mitchell had recently returned to the camp after a prior escape.

Apple Growers Tour Planned by International Association

About 100 reservations are made at the George Washington Hotel for an International Apple Association meeting in Washington. Attendees will arrive around 7 30 p m after a bus tour of local orchards in Berkeley County including Gerrardstown Inwood and Apple Pie Ridge Road. They will visit John Caspar Dillion Fulton and other orchards near Riner Cross Roads and travel to Hancock Maryland before returning to Berryville for the Byrd Orchard picnic.

Controls Bill Heads to Passage

128 Students Enroll Final Red Cross Swimming Class

A total of 128 students have enrolled in the final Red Cross swimming class at Willow Lawn Pool starting Monday.
