America strikes idle 68 000 workers as the union rejects a proposed modification of the Taft-Hartley immunity formula. CIO UAW director Emil Meren says negotiations declined the offer due to other strings attached. Some historians trace the issue to earlier Japan dates.
Former President Herbert Hoover, 73, says Soviet Russia bears blame for global unrest. He warns the United States may need to rearm and ship surplus goods to prevent starvation abroad unless international relations change. Hoover spoke after a world food survey for President Truman.
L. M. Castleman announced 25 cars and drivers would race Sunday at the Somerset fairgrounds half mile track in Meyersdale Pennsylvania. EJA champion Ken Cather and runner-up Carl Anderson head a list of entrants including Shorty Bowers Jack Boyd Art Parnell Jimmy Shaw Ralph Williams and Ralph Pitcock. Cather and Bowers were involved in a five car crash last Sunday at Winchester Airport Speedway. Cather sustained only minor scratches.
