The ninth annual Frederick County Sunday School Association picnic will be at Kline's Grove in Vaucluse on Saturday. Events run 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a Middletown Band concert at 10 a.m. and a baseball game against White Hall. Prizes include gold for oldest and youngest attendees and multiple races and nail driving contests.
A Dayton Ohio couple applied for a marriage license at the Virginia Corporation Court clerk's office. The bride said she was 18 but Virginia law requires parental consent for under 21, so the couple withdrew to seek a more lenient jurisdiction.
Frederick County election officials pause the Democratic primary canvass after Middletown precinct shows 309 votes for three Commonwealth Attorney candidates though only 249 ballots were cast. Officials suspect clerical error duplicating 145 votes for Harrison and Edwards while awaiting explanations from Middletown precinct judges.
A charter for Hable Theatres Inc is recorded. Maximum capital stock is 50000 dollars in 100 dollar shares. Purposes listed as general theatre business. Officers: H H Hable president and treasurer, Melvin Flegenheimer vice president, Rosa H Flegenheimer secretary. Three offices form the board of directors.
Andrew Danko, solo cornetist of the Winchester Concert Band, will perform two cornet solos, A Dream and The Sweetest Story Ever Told, at an 8 o'clock tomorrow evening concert on the Court House lawn directed by Prof. W. H. McIlwee. The program also features Facile, My Old Kentucky Home, Don Quixote, and other pieces in a neighborhood event inviting all.
The Friendship Fire Company holds its regular meeting tomorrow night at 8 o clock in Friendship Hall. All members urged to attend as this is the last meeting before the big convention next week. Capt. Fred W. Forney presiding.

William S Rudolph of Capon and Intermont born on Capon river area near Winchester died July 31 at McClure Ohio aged 77. He married Mary Elizabeth Kistner in 1883 and leaves six sons three daughters fifteen grandchildren. He helped found Bethany Chapel and was active in local life and hunting circles.
The Winchester corporation clerk's office canvassed the Democratic primary results Tuesday. Joseph S. Denny earned 405 votes and Boyd Richards 531 votes, with the numbers certified to the city Democratic executive committee chairman. Commissioners present were Chas Kremer John Dunn John Huntsberry and Harry Homer.
The Winchester Lions Club weekly meeting featured the presentation of a marble gavel to Herbert S. Larrick, past president, who then gave it to President Hove Riley. John S. Brown spoke on Playgrounds and attendance discussed the topic. Howe Riley reported on the Lions Clubs international meeting in Toronto and visitors joined the luncheon.
A yard party at Robinson Farm takes place Saturday August 8 with Hershey's ice cream and sandwiches to raise funds for Round Hill M. E. Church. Committee organizers invite local residents to attend.
In the championship flight at Winchester Golf Club only two first round matches left as four ties were completed this week. Ex champion Harry Kern Jr beat Jack Hayley 3 2 to advance, while Don Nixdorff edged Bill Paxton and will face Don Weems in round two. Ed Stone defeated John Weems 3 up 2 to go and meets E. E. Walker after Walker eliminated Jimmy Sirbaugh 4 3.
Daughters of the American Revolution announce a patriotic essay contest sponsored by Yorktown Sesqui centennial and National Society DAR. Awards range from 200 for first to 5 for eighth and a 50 prize for DAR chapter members. Theme is The Yorktown Campaign and Its Effect on American and World History. Essays due October 1 1931. Winners announced by October 10. Entries to Mrs J W Rosenberger or Miss Anna S Briggs.
City and county officers have found no arrests in the Coca Cola Bottling Works robbery on East Gerrard street. Thieves backed a truck to the rear door and carried off about 300 dollars from the safe, which was later found pried open at Bartonsville Dam seven miles away. Mr P C Petrie of Bartonsville reported locating the loot after a nearby walk. T B and Allen Emmett will leave tomorrow for Virginia Beach for a time.
Five hundred people invited to an event at Market Street M E Church on Thursday August 6 from 7 to 10 PM featuring a homemade ice cream and cake feast. A chicken salad supper runs 5 to 7 PM with a 5 cent price.
L B Ressique a noted local fruit broker was arrested by Chief Hollis on a Charleston forgery warrant for 1050 dollars alleged against L M Belk and Sons. Attorney Kern secured a habeas corpus writ and Ressique was released on 1000 bond with hearing set for August 17.
W. Benton Snider a local merchant watched Roy Forrest leap from a plane at 1600 feet above the Atlantic. The parachute failed to open and Forrest died during the performance off Steel Pier in Atlantic City.
The funeral for George M. Kidwell was held Tuesday afternoon at Highland Avenue Presbyterian Church with Rev. E D Witherspoon officiating. Interment followed at Mount Hebron Cemetery. Pallbearers included Theodore Lake and A C White. Kidwell, who had recently undergone leg amputations, was survived by a widow, one daughter, six sisters, and five brothers.
