Rev Dr James Power Smith Dies After Long Life of Service
Stewart Bell received a telegram announcing the death of his first cousin the Rev Dr James Power Smith. The veteran Confederate veteran and Jackson staff member died after a gradual decline in his advanced years. Funeral planned for Richmond Virginia with burial at Hollywood Cemetery beside his wife. Smith served in the Confederate army and helped recover General Jackson's body after Jackson was slain. He entered the army at Winchester and later led Presbyterian churches in Fredericksburg and Richmond. He authored a life of General Jackson and wrote on Civil War era religious topics.

Chase Ends In Man's Arrest After Domestic Fight
Police were summoned to Robert Sherman’s home on South Main street for a domestic dispute. Sherman slept in his car until the fight resumed and he and his wife fled in a car. Officer Armel pursued on a motorcycle, capturing Sherman five miles out near Opequon on the Cedar Creek road.
