At the last Winchester School Board meeting Garland Quarles reported total city enrollment of 2,520 for the year ending June 30 1938. Handley led with 1,463 students followed by John Kerr 536 Virginia Avenue 304 and Douglas colored school 217. Attendance reached 95 percent the highest in school history.

Amos L. Pugh Dies at Capon Bridge in Hampshire County
Amos L. Pugh, aged 86, longtime Capon Bridge resident and noted Hampshire County figure, died at his home. A nine time sheriff, legislator, founder and former president of the First National Bank of Romney, he devoted life to church and youth welfare. Funeral plans await the arrival of his son from Oklahoma.

Mrs. Virginia Vredenburgh Rites Planned After Death
Mrs. Virginia Baker Vredenburgh died last night in a Los Angeles nursing home after several paralytic strokes. A native of Winchester she was born January 4, 1885 and leaves three children including Peter in Los Angeles and Lieuts. James Vredenburgh and George Koch. Surviving relatives include Miss Sophie Baker and several cousins. Funeral arrangements were not immediately learned.
