Ex Governor Davis claims the party will not carry more than two or three of Virginia’s one hundred counties as Senator Swanson wins a decisive statewide majority of 75 000. The result reshapes regional power and signals tight races ahead.
Virginia voters tilt decisively to incumbent Senator Claude A. Swanson winning every congressional district and most counties. Westmoreland Davis concedes defeat as Deal and Woodrum vie in the Second and Sixth districts with Swanson leading nationwide by a large margin.
Yesterday the Virginia Democrats nominated a candidate to succeed himself as United States senator by a record majority in state history. The opposition included former Governor Westmore Davis, challenging the frontrunner.
With nearly complete returns from ten counties and three cities, Senator Swanson leads former Governor Westmoreland Davis by about 5 744 votes in the Democratic primary for the U S Senate. Davis carried few precincts despite strong farmer appeal as Swanson's margin grows with outstanding results.

Senator Swanson carries Winchester and Frederick County by large margins in yesterdays Democratic primary over former Governor Westmor Davis. The total city and county vote was 1 599, about 60 percent of the qualified Democratic vote, with Swanson taking 781 in the county and 460 in the city, while Davis had 140 in the county and 218 in the city. Swanson led decisively in every precinct and remained confident of victory despite active Davis opposition.
