Tax Relief May Be Available in Drought Areas of the Commonwealth
Virginia taxpayers in 16 counties designated as drought disaster areas may qualify for tax relief with a special provision for farmers selling livestock due to drought. Eligible farmers using the cash method may elect to report proceeds in the next tax year if sales exceed normal practice and drought designation is in effect. Contact local IRS offices or call 1 800 552 9500 for guidance. Publication 225 is available free.

Virginia households face higher Food Stamp costs as benefits from Social Security Supplemental Security Income and Railroad Retirement rise.
