Carmel Quinn arrives this afternoon to lead Winchester Firemen's Parade. More than 200 units and 9 bands from multiple states plus Canada participate. parade begins at 6 pm with Miss Quinn presenting the honorary fire chief trophy at 4:30 pm.
The parade starts at 6 p.m. tomorrow on Cameron Street. It proceeds north to Baker Street, west to N Loudoun, south to Germain, west to Stewart, south to Handley Boulevard, and east to Gaunt's Drug Store.
Red Cross offers remaining places in the Mother and Baby Care Course starting Monday at 7 30 p.m with enrollment by calling 662 5412. Friday's Grand Feature parade will display three crack units led by the All-Service Color Guard of 16 members and the Navy Ceremonial Guard of 26 from Washington D C followed by the Handley Band and the 20 member U S Air Force Color Guard in front of Festival President James R Wilkins car.
A detailed schedule for Thursday April 29 outlines morning tours by Queen Shenandoah Neva Goodwin Rockefeller and her court, with free film showings at Palace Theatre and a luncheon at George Washington Hotel. The afternoon features coronation, Apple Blossom events at Handley Bowl, Honorary Fire Chief contests, a night parade, fireworks, square dancing, and teen dances with live bands and recorded music at local venues.
The Spring Colors Accent Pageant unfolds tomorrow at 3 p.m. in Handley Bowl as Miss Neva Rockefeller is crowned Queen Shenandoah. More than 600 participants from Maryland Pennsylvania Virginia and West Virginia will perform in a woodland to patriotic finale production led by Mrs. George W. Clowser Jr and produced by The Women's Civic League of Winchester with behind the scenes help from Owen Phillips of Wayside Theatre.
Growers expect some blossoms by the Apple Blossom Festival but warn full bloom hinges on temperatures rising into the high 70s or 80s. Early varieties may show buds next week, with Gravensteins and Staymans starting to pop as bees eyed for pollination and sunny days arrive.

In Paris, Soviet foreign minister Andrei Gromyko expressed the USSR is ready to participate in an international conference on Cambodia. French cabinet disclosures say Maurice Couve de Murville relayed Gromyko’s agreement during meetings in Paris. Gromyko is on an official visit.
Brig. Gen. Nguyen Cao Ky, head of South Viet Nam's air force, argues that air strikes on North Vietnam fail to cut Viet Cong aid and urges a large escalation or negotiations. He proposes sending regular troops north and creating bases to threaten Viet Cong supply lines, while opposing ground operations by U.S. forces.

A U S RB47 reconnaissance aircraft was damaged by two North Korean MIG1 fighters over the Sea of Japan about 50 miles from the Korean mainland and landed safely at Yokota Air Base Japan. There were no crew injuries. The attack occurred around 1130 p m EDT Tuesday.
A N Store announces camp stools at $1.00 and that no garbage collections will occur Thursday, Friday, and Saturday during the Apple Blossom Festival. Waste will be collected on the regular days the following week.
Neva Rockefeller arrives in Winchester to begin a two day festival preceding her coronation as Queen Shenandoah XXXVIII. She is met at Courtfield by Mrs. Harry F. Byrd Jr. and maids of honor Miss Kerfi and Miss Massie. A press conference at the George Washington Hotel follows a welcome by the Virginia Lancers.
A meeting of the Frederick County School Trustee Electoral Board will be held in the Board of Supervisors Room of the County Office Building in Winchester on Friday May 21 1965 at 10 00 A M EST. The purpose is to elect a school board member from the Opequon District.
