The Mississippi floods surge through the region as onrushing waters overwhelm homes and streets. Residents seek higher ground while authorities urge evacuation and monitor levee breaches. Damaged infrastructure and displaced families mark a severe natural disaster response.
Reports describe rapid flood surges along the Mississippi and Arkansas rivers threatening Clarendon and Little Rock Arkansas. Levee breaches near Beardstown Illinois and White River events intensify flooding while refugee camps in Wynne and Parkin Arkansas report measles mumps and whooping cough outbreaks.
Levees on the White and Arkansas rivers broke, flooding Clarendon and North Little Rock. In Clarendon a three to four thousand residents faced rapid water as homes, livestock, and river craft were swept away. Rescue boats worked to reach trapped residents and assess casualties amid roaring floodwaters.

Rains left National avenue carnival grounds a mud sea reducing attendance at Miller Brothers Exposition Shows. By morning 20 truck loads of cinders and equal sawdust were spread to restore the midway. Kiwanis luncheon featured Rosalind and Oneida Nelson and the Filipino Midg ets John and Marie DeLaCruze entertaining. Proceeds support crippled children and playground fund with Friday afternoon children’s admission. Newsboys Night set for Friday.
The United States Navy Band under Lieut. Charles Benter will arrive in Winchester on April 27 for the Apple Blossom Festival. Train arrangements were made by J. Whittington, with Pullman sleepers attached to the western express from Washington. The band will stay until the morning of April 29, among the first to arrive and last to depart.
The week ending yesterday brought good farm progress in Virginia with wheat in excellent condition. Strawberries and some truck crops in the southwest were damaged by frost, but overall fruit outlook appears promising.
Six more names were added today to the death list from the Sydney storm raising the total to 12. The storm followed four days of rain and was described as the worst in 15 years.

For the Apple Blossom Festival in Winchester on April 27-28 the Mystic Shriners promise a band concert and chanters recital at Handley High School Auditorium at 8 15 p m Wednesday. Richmond Acca Temple will send about 150 members plus a parade appearance Thursday. Tickets are free and available only at Handley Library from Masonic members to ensure full attendance.

Mayor J. P. Ward received ancient Winchester relics dug up in England as a gift from S. Ward-Evans. The small pottery items date from before the Christian era to A D 1680 and will be shown at the Handley Library. Vernon Eddy will mount them for public display with a letter from Winchester.
Tickets are on sale for the Pageant of Progress of the Shenandoah Valley to be held at Winchester Fair Grounds on April 7 and 28 during Apple Blossom Festival. Cast exceeds 600 with music by the U S Navy Band. General admission $1. Reserved seats 75 cents. boxes six for $6. A City Council special meeting heard delegations from the District Nurse Association Welfare Association Park Commission militia and industries. Nurses urged restoration of 1500 and won 1500. Militia funds were rejected as were park nursery stock and higher water rates for big users.
Berkeley selects Princess Martinsburg to represent the county as a princess at the Apple Blossom Festival in Winchester on Wednesday and Thursday, April 27 and 28.
Hon. George Latham Fletcher of the Faquier Circuit Court sat as presiding judge in Winchester Corporation Court due to the death of Judge Fr B Whiting in Berryville. Proceedings from February and March must be reentered to meet legal requirements, with a special term likely for Frederick County Court before Fletcher returns to his own court.
Renowned clown Scotty Dean of the Miller Brothers Carnival visits Winchester under American Legion support. Forty percent of show proceeds benefit the Crippled Children's Fund. Dean tours downtown, showcasing his kilts and badges and invites women to attend Pirates Den free on Wednesday Thursday and Friday nights.

The fourth annual Apple Blossom Festival program from Winchester is a 28 page booklet with photo engravings of Mrs. Kenneth N Gilpin as Queen Shenandoah and other dignitaries. The coronation plans include a 21 foot long pale green satin gown train and a regal diadem for the queen, with rehearsals set at Handley High School. Proceeds from program sales help defray festival costs and extend to distant families.
