Inflation Surges as GNP Gains Amid Post-Freeze Mixed Signals

Washington AP report shows the economy grew 11.8 percent in the January-March quarter with a $30.3 billion GNP rise to a $1.103 trillion annual rate. Inflation hit 6.2 percent, the highest since late 1970, driven by post-freeze price increases and Phase 2 controls. Personal income rose to $905 billion in March after revisions, while earlier figures for February were raised by $4 billion.

Frederick County Board Will Not Seek Tax Increase

Raymond C. Sandy, chairman of the Frederick County board of supervisors, announced no hike in real estate at 3.40 per 100 and personal property at 4.40 per 100 will be asked for the upcoming fiscal year.
