Byrd pushes temporary gas tax to fund Virginia roads
Virginia state senator Harry F Byrd unveiled a plan at the Good Roads Association to raise 20 million for 1926 and 1927 road construction via a temporary one cent gas tax, extending the current rate to four cents and tying funds to complete gaps in main highways while criticizing bond schemes and pledging to keep road funds dedicated to roads.
