Death of Nineveh farmer Gilbert Hicks in Virginia
Gilbert Hicks of Nineveh Warren county Virginia died at 4 AM after a week long pneumonia illness at his aunt Mrs. Jacob Mc Kay's residence. He was a lifelong farmer, unmarried, son of the late Benjamin and Bettie Hicks. Survived by sister Mrs. George Sowers of Laws Warren county and brother Robert Hicks of Texas. Funeral at 4 PM Sunday at the Nineveh Presbyterian Church with interment in the church cemetery.

A severe windstorm swept through Virginia Valley last evening causing downed trees and fencing while a recently built barn at A L White’s farm near Bloom collapsed killing one horse and totaling about 1000 dollars in losses. Telephone lines were disrupted but linemen restored service.

Mrs. Mary A. McCardell, oldest Kernstown resident, died at her home aged 88 years. Born October 10 1827 in Cumberland County Pennsylvania she moved to Virginia with her parents in 1847. She married Thomas McCardell and left a large extended family in Pennsylvania and Ohio. Burial is in Mount Hebron Cemetery after a service at Kernstown.
