Doubleday Officials Help Find Child Lost Near Berryville
A two and a half year old boy, Robert Owen Whaley Jr., and his dog Tramp wandered from the Whaley home on Pigeon Hill near Berryville. After a frantic search by family, neighbors, and four Doubleday executives from the nearby plant, they were found two hours later in the Byrd apple orchards about three quarters of a mile away. The boy’s father, production supervisor Robert Owen Whaley, was alerted at 11 am and was driven to the scene by George Barnes, with other Doubleday staff joining the search. The Whaleys live in a Colonial brick house with eight acres, near US Route 340, and a fence hole near the orchard had permitted access for the boy and dog.
