Judge Whiting in Winchester denied bail for four prohibition agents charged with killing Lawrence Stoudson and Ray Sanniot. Hearing noted to be postponed to Monday due to ongoing damage suit proceedings. Inspectors remain in Fredericksburg jail. possible appeal to Supreme Court of Appeals.

A marriage license was issued yesterday in Hagerstown Maryland to Guy Shoemaker of Capon Springs West Virginia and Miss Blanche Foreman of Gore Frederick county.
Private Alonzo Baker of the One Hundred and Second Infantry from Winchester arrived at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington for treatment. His father Charles Baker resides in Winchester.
Voters must pay the 1918 poll tax by May 3 1919 to vote in November and also settle 1916 and 1917 taxes if unpaid. The notice is signed by Robert B. Smith, Treasurer of Frederick County, and William T. Barr, Treasurer, City of Winchester. The dates April 16 81 and May 1 2 26 28 30 mark submission windows.
Health authorities plan an active campaign to clean unsanitary premises in the city this spring. Focus areas include cellars and back yards where garbage and decayed vegetables have collected over winter. Some merchants, especially green grocers, are accused of allowing decayed matter to accumulate and will be hauled into court.
In a magistrate court decision the old colored band members were declared in good standing and an equitable distribution of instruments ordered. New members, led by the majority, awaited seven charter members but they did not appear. The band plans summer concerts and the group offers to buy instruments for the former members. Winchester residents see a need for a local colored band and the revival continues with watchful waiting.
The annex, recently purchased from the heirs of Jacob E. Baker, is located west of the Hotel Jack. It is a large brick addition with 18 guest chambers. Rooms are described as large, airy and luxurious and were occupied by guests for the first time this week.

Mr and Mrs Kenneth Gilpin of Kentmere greet returning Tennessee and Carolina soldiers in Charleston South Carolina. General Laurence Tyson, Mrs Gilpin’s father, serves as a commander. The family accompanies troops to Fort Oglethorpe to be mustered out. They plan to return to Clarke in several weeks.
The Rev. Charles Adey pastor of the Baptist Church will deliver a lecture at 8 oclock this Friday evening for the general public. His subject will be How a Mill Boy Came To Be Buried In the Hall of Fame. Adey lectured in Baltimore earlier and was well received.
The Winchester Presbyterian auxiliary for women’s missionary societies will hold its annual session at the Winchester Presbyterian Church on May 5 6 7. More than 50 delegates are expected with local church members hosting. Mrs Bessie B McCann is auxiliary president and Miss Irene Slonaker serves as secretary of literature.

A radio code message describing an infantry company refusing front line duty and seeking why they were held in Russia has been sent to the secretary. The War Department treats the matter as serious while Sen Johnson of California protests holding the men in Russia without a war declaration.
The Martinsburg Glee Club will present the Dixie Minstrels at the Empire Theater tonight to benefit Red Cross and Y M C A funds. The group, 50 to 60 performers, arrived this afternoon and previously drew a large crowd in Martinsburg.

Wage readjustment for 400000 railroad workers announced by Director General Hines of the railroad administration increases annual payroll by over 15000000 dollars. The new schedule becomes retroactive to January 1, 1919. In other items a brief note mentions Miss Clara Beck returning from Harrisonburg Virginia after a visit with Mr and Mrs Paul Beck.
The Rev Frank Rines, who impressed listeners at Market Street Methodist Episcopal Church, will speak again Sunday evening April 13 at 8 o clock on the same subject. The public is invited to attend.

Edgar Smoke, a 45 year old married man of the Western county, is on trial in Frederick County Circuit Court before Judge Frank B. Whiting for shooting Fred W. Lineburg after a past dispute on a culvert six miles west of the city. Testimony includes Stone-throwing and a rock, with Smoke claiming Lineburg struck him and cursed him before Smoke fired hitting Lineburg in the hip. The jury is seated and proceedings continued with many witnesses heard as residents packed the courtroom.

The Law Enforcement League announced a mass meeting at City Hall Auditorium at 8 o'clock on Sunday afternoon, April 13. Rev. F. M. Richardson Rev. Charles Adey and Mr. W. S. A Bavarian minister to Berlin, von Preger, is said to receive no letter from the Bavarian Soviet government directing his resignation. He remains loyal to the Hoffmann government. Prussia Saxony and German Austria are to recognize only Hoffmann, with Württemberg Hesse and Baden issuing a similar declaration.

Berry is accused of eloping with Edna Nicol daughter of Nicol of Madison County earlier that Sunday. Nicol’s father and Sedawick expect Edna to return to Madison County soon to face the outcome.
