West Virginia auditor reports no backing for the Ridgeway site seen as a large scale factory town. Promoters paid 5000 dollars on the Schlack farm but never completed payments or construction. Blueprints show a town with 320 lots and streets named Virginia to Jackson, east of the Pennsylvania Railroad. The deal, once valued at 20 000 dollars for the land, was listed for disposal by W T Birmingham.

The move follows wage hikes by the American Woolen Company and is expected to spread to other eastern woolen manufacturers.
Friendship Fire Company No 1 calls a regular meeting on Thursday evening April 5 at 8 o clock all members urged to attend by order of Fred W Forney captain and G R Haines secretary
A silent alarm reported a fire in the back yard of Lee Boxwell on South Kent street about 9 30 last night. The pig pen fence and rubbish lot were burning when Friendship Fire Company arrived and quickly extinguished the blaze with a water stream. No general alarm was sounded.
Sheriff Parnett's bloodhounds chased a group of young men through Hollingsworth and near Rouss Spring when they exposed a sequence of craps and card games. The dogs bayed and pursued, but the crowd fled into the woods and escaped when the sheriff halted the pursuit.
Wm Kline optometrist from Waynesboro Va will be in Berryville at the Hotel on Thursday and Friday April 5 and 6 for eye examinations and custom glasses. An other notice mentions Armourdale lots and a local sale. Saturday April 7 at 1 PM an event called Try Herrelis is advertised.
A marriage license was issued to Morris E. Cather and Georgia C. Shoope. The ceremony will be held tomorrow night at the bride’s home, performed by Rev. J. F. Morgan, with post nuptial plans to visit Martinsburg before settling in Charles Town, West Virginia. Cather, a Shenandoah Valley Academy graduate, is a rising fruit grower. Shoope, a native of Pennsylvania, is organist at the Christian Church and a pianist who has performed with her sister Pauline Shoope.
Cairo Egypt April 3 The Earl of Sudgden's illness worsens and is now listed as critical. The Associated Press reports doctors say his condition has deteriorated significantly since the relapse.
A blaze at the Kinneo House in Van Buren Maine killed four people including Mrs. Charles Bouchard and her two young children and Charles McGarthy of Grand Isle. Fire authorities said the start was from unknown causes and the fire swept through the small hotel.
Woodrow Wilson listened by radio from Washington to Lord Robert Cecil’s address on the league of nations. Diners at Hotel Astor rose to their feet as the former President was announced. Mrs. Wilson, visiting with Bernard Baruch’s guests, smiled and joined in the tribute.
Miss Lena N. Orndorff and Paul James Wolverton were married at Grace Lutheran Church parsonage on North Market Street by Rev. A. A. Kelly. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Orndorff of Mount Williams, wore a blue tricotine suit with matching accessories. The groom, son of James Wolverton of Edinburg, Va., works at Handley School. They will reside in Winchester with best wishes from friends.

Miners at E L Michie’s Marmet Marmet Marmet Conard Hernshaw mines in West Virginia walked out today. The strike affects workers at Houston Marmet Conard and Hernshaw and follows a local grievance dispute tied to a scale agreement signed by Michie’s company.
A Winchester Lumber Corporation inspection train on the Winchester and Western Railroad suffered a blast when a locomotive cylinder head blew out near the Winchester Gas Company plant. One passenger received a leg wound from flying debris as the train halted briefly before proceeding.

Major Percy B. Lanier of Petersburg, a member of the One Hundred and Sixty third Infantry Virginia National Guard, is dismissed from the service after a military board found him unfit for a commissioned officer. The action, approved by Governor Trinkle, follows charges raised by Capt. W. G. Armstrong and involves undisclosed allegations. Lanier previously served since 1903 and is 37. He was chief clerk at the Petersburg post office before federal charges were brought.

The will of the late John C Horn former assistant cashier of the Commercial and Savings Bank of this city was probated. The document written in his own hand and dated February 24, eighteen years ago leaves all estate to his wife Mabel G Horn who is named executrix without security after bond set at 30 000. Both subscribing witnesses James B Reit and James P Orne are deceased.
New York April 3 Stella Adler known on stage as Stella Larrimore was denied a jury trial in the divorce case of Geraldine Farrar and Lou Telley. Adler sought a jury determination to clear her name after alleged park bench meetings and spooning episodes with Farrar's former lover.
A man using the name R. A. Thompson paid two fines in police court last night on separate charges of being drunk and disorderly. He had been arrested Saturday by Officer Worsley, released on bail, then re arrested two hours later by Officer Hollis and jailed again. He settled fines and costs totaling 14 dollars.
A reception honoring new Centenary Reformed Church members will be held in the Sunday school room this evening at 8 oclock. All members are urged to attend for an evening of real recreation and fun with surprises for both children and adults.
Lloyd Bland was struck when a car backed into his bicycle wheel on Hast Piney Street last Saturday. He noted the vehicle's number and the owner, a Reyco vicinity resident, was asked to come forward and pay the costs after the police were informed.

A four year old boy, William Compher, died after a severe injury at a Loudoun County home. The incident appears linked to a pen with hogs and pigeons where the child was last seen. Neighbors heard cries and rushed to aid him, but he succumbed to his injuries the following morning.
