Hays County tightens rules on subdivision variances
Hays County Commissioners Court approved nine prerequisites for variance requests to be placed on the agenda. Requirements include tract size of at least one acre, no more than two lots per tract, no floodplain, outside Edwards Aquifer Recharge Zone, outside city ETJs, and no existing subdivision. A tenth element to restrict use to residential or agricultural was rejected. Local officials will require written variance requests and favor a precinct commissioner’s approval.
