Perseid meteor shower draws stargazers in Hays County
Residents from Five mile Dam to Dripping Springs and Wimberley watched the annual Perseid meteor shower from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. The event, caused by Earth passing through debris from Comet Swift-Tuttle, drew people away from city lights to remote spots like Mount Alberta Baldy. The Austin Astronomical Society notes the comet orbits the Sun every 130 years and that the shower has been observed since AD 36.
