Texas vehicle owners will receive renewal applications by January for the February 1 to April 1 renewal window. The 3 part form includes instructions and a non tear apart card. Owners may renew by mail or at their county tax office with a $1 extra fee.
The notice explains mail renewal by March 1 with a $1 per vehicle surcharge to receive plates by April 1. Owners may renew in person at the county tax office for shorter lines, using the renewal form and fee. The system began with 1967 computer equipment by the Texas Motor Vehicle Division in Austin.
