Moralizing classroom notes and a cautionary tale on cheating
A school column discusses semester reports and parental surveillance of conduct, praising Title I teacher and student teaching under Mrs. Ewing. It pivots to Jack Griffin’s Chicago Sun Times piece about “Everybody Does It,” a cautionary tale showing how small acts of cheating and lax attitudes escalate from youth to scholarship schemes.

Duty of Parents and Authority Shapes Student Life
The speaker argues that parental and institutional authority has strengthened yet warns of a rising youth revolt if limits are not enforced. Surveys show students watch TV 2.5 to 4 hours nightly and may only study about 40 minutes, delaying college readiness and academic focus as industries note the gap.
Schools and Homes Must Back Each Other for Success
The piece urges stronger home backing for education as 15 to 25 percent of college freshmen may be sent home next fall for lack of preparation. It recalls an English visitor's remark on American parenting and quotes a teacher praising parental support. It also celebrates Market Days in Wimberley, sponsored by the Lions Club, with space reservations starting April 1.
