Fine Time Enjoyed by Rotarians at Inter-City Meeting

Wilson Rotarians five in number traveled to Washington D C yesterday to attend the Inter City meeting held under Washington organization in the auditorium of the Washington Collegiate Institute. The five were President Frank Miller Clarence Stokes Carl Goerch Clifford Burden and Howard Hilley. Talks by District Governor Gene Newsome and a representative of International Rotary were particularly good. J B Kittrell of Greenville and John Parks of Raleigh led the singing. John Bragaw of Ashington wrote a humorous poem read to applause. Edmund Harding led stunts and presided at the piano as many clubs staged pageants showing how their towns got their names. The Goldsboro pageant was praised as best, and a special edition announcing Greenville names and incidents was distributed by Goldsboro newsboys. A Wilson stunt suggested the town was named for a famous beverage, later clarified as named for General Wilson of Mexican War fame. A country club dinner with oyster roast and a hazy thal game with Washington and Scotland Neck High School closed the day.
