Nervous breakdown hits liberal preacher Percy Grant
Dr. Percy Grant, former rector of the Church of the Ascension, is hospitalized in New York with a general nervous breakdown and anemia. His long dispute with Bishop Manning over a planned marriage to Rita de Acosta Lydig drew national attention, and his retirement followed ill health. He is described as grave, with his supporters noting the long years of controversial stances and public defense of unconventional views.
