A peaceful lumberman Joshua A. Cox of White Creek near Washington is shot by Thomas Frazier after a liquor dispute at Cox's store. Frazier is captured but mobbed, executed, and mutilated near the mill, in a brutal vigilante killing reported by the Washington Progress.
