Negro Hanged for Murder in Private Rockingham Execution

Dan Gilchrist, a Negro, was hanged at Rockingham today for the brutal murder of his father in law Frank McKay on February 9 1893. Gilchrist waylaid him on a lonely road at night and killed him with an axe. The execution was private with only ten witnesses.
