The Metropolitan District Democratic Convention renominated Hon. B. H. Bunn for Congress praising his record, diligence, and leadership. It notes rivals Cooke Jones Cradshaw would have served well, but forecasts a triumphant return for Bunn in the general election. The State Chronicle also lauds his faithful service and possible third term.
The letter excerpted remarks on Grover Cleveland denying involvement with the force bill and opposes private armed force. It notes the Senate investigation into Pinkerton agents at Homestead and calls for policing by sworn public officers rather than private detectives.
Chronicle endorses Mr Bunn and pledges full effort to increase his majority. Edward S. Abell of Johnson County is nominated Presidential Elector for this district and will actively canvass.
The text notes Craven and Vance removed and Wayne added to the district. It states there is no doubt about redemption and urges active club work with hearty cooperation assured.
A newly formed Cleveland Carr and Woodard Democratic club gathered Thursday night with Col John F Bruton as president and C F Wilson as secretary. Chas Aycock delivered a forceful speech outlining the party platform on Tariff and Silver and urging unity behind the nominee to enforce the platform. F A Woodard, the party’s Congressional candidate in the district sending a black representative, pledged a thorough canvass of the district and assured supporters of solid backing.
The passage argues that many Alabama African Americans voted Democratic in the recent election, framing it as a Republican attempt to justify Force Bill actions. It claims blacks follow employers under influence, worse than prior Democratic pressure, and resist school interference.
