Letter from Stephen Cicherski thanks the Wilson County News for free advertising space. He notes his business gained a first job this week and asks for renewal of his Employment Wanted ad. The editor comments on Employment Wanted ads and guidance for students seeking work.
Gregory Croft opens Nixon TV-Used TV-Repair & Sales at 210 N Washington St Corner of Third. The Croft brothers offer used TV sales and repair service for TVs stereos and small motors with pickup and delivery and home adjustments. They plan to move to the Nixon area and serve surrounding communities.
The Wee Country Cottage, a new daycare near Lone Oak's Pioneer Country Restaurant, plans a July opening. Registrations are now being taken for infants and school-age children. Owner Shirley Story cites eight acres and a country themed interior as part of her dream in childcare.
Big Low Grocery in LaVernia will close for vacation the week of May 4 through May 9. The store will reopen on July 11.
Wilson County library hosts a reception Friday July 1 at 7 30 p m to honor Lillian Inez Litch Jackson as a Grand Lady of the Republic a title declared by the Texas Legislature. Jackson was Wilson County’s first librarian serving 31 years and remains active after retirement. State Representative Jim Crockett will present the resolution, with the Friends of the Library led by Sharon Ammonis organizing.
Floresville offers adults evening swimming lessons at the new city pool. One class has started with fifteen participants, mainly non swimmers. The two week course costs 25 dollars and city officials aim to accommodate workers by evening sessions. City Manager Manuel Longoria notes interest in learning to swim. The city may add a weekly Young Adult Swim class at the pool.
The Floresville family announces the birth of Blake Russell Helmke on June 23 at 2 15 p.m. at Methodist Hospital San Antonio. He weighs 7 pounds 13 ounces and measures 20 inches. Parents Jim and Beverly Helmke greet sister Linnei as relatives celebrate.
The LaVernia Volunteer Fire Department requests volunteers for July 3 starting at 2:00 p.m. at the Chamber of Commerce to prepare the Fourth of July meal. All ladies are invited to donate a cake by 11:00 a.m. on July 4 and volunteers are needed for the serving line.
The Floresville City Park pool now has a two way monitoring security system monitored at the Floresville Police Station. Assistant City Manager Manuel Longoria says park access is barred after eight pm and the system helps police track activity including potential midnight swims during daytime patrols.
LaVernia Lumber and Supply closes July 2 3 and 4 while Baumann's Floresville and LaVernia locations suspend operations Sunday and Monday for the July 4th holiday.
The Floresville High School Band announces a fireworks stand on Highway 181 near Wal Mart to raise funds for the band and related activities. Proceeds support uniforms instruments and travel. Volunteers staff the booth and hours are posted at the location.
