La Vernia Grammar School Library hosts a June 23 1983 9 30 am screening of The Flintstones animates a color feature about Fred Wilma Pebbles Dino and Happy in a spy spoof. Library hours run Mondays and Thursdays 9 00 to 11 30 am until July 21.
Bill Murphy of Kwik N Kleen announces expansion into Wilson County and Seguin areas with parking lot re striping buck hole patches and sweeping clean up to rocks glass paper and debris. Deborah and Melvin Schroeder start Deborah Enterprises in La Vernia offering 14 K gold pieces and precious stones with Add A Bead chains. They plan a shop and repair services, provide catalog orders with delivery under a week, and note lower overhead as a key to competitive prices.
C B Doria and sons open Stockdale Packing Co at the former Southwest Meat Company site on Highway 123 North. The new business employs eight people and offers custom processing for beef pork and poultry plus over the counter market service. They emphasize local grain fed pork poultry and eggs and specialize in cabrito.
Wayne Brown announces Nixon Lumber Company a full home center style lumber yard on West Third Street in the former McCann's Lumber. The business backed by Gonzales County Judge Henry Vallentine offers a half million dollar inventory, brand name products, and weekday through Saturday hours ahead of a late summer grand opening. Dewey Boykin to manage Nixon operation.
LaVernia Area Jaycees have launched projects including street cleanup ahead of the July 4th festival. They will run a Dunking Booth to raise funds for the volunteer fire department and seek men 18 to 35 in Wilson County to join.
