Drought eases as heat dome spreads across Texas
Texas drought slightly improves with 26 percent of the state in some drought stage, mainly in West and South Texas and Panhandle. Storms in late April and May flooded East and North Texas, lifting drought in those regions as a heat dome raises temperatures statewide. Texas faces a hot summer. San Antonio records heat index of 117, and some South Texas cities post temperature records. National Weather Service notes May rainfall in Central and East Texas exceeded average.
