In San Antonio Dr Charles Moore led a team at Christus Transplant Institute in the first successful HeartMate artificial heart assist device implantation. Patient Eugene Braaten 38 with dilated cardiomyopathy now relies on the device as a bridge to transplantation, enabling mobility while awaiting a donor heart.
