Area churches and groups host a busy December schedule with caroling at St. John's Path and First Baptist Sutherland Springs. Activities include a live nativity at St. John's Path, a Christmas musical The Gift Goes On at St. Johns Poth, and multiple services and pageants in Stockdale, Poth, and nearby towns.
Bettie Johnson, longtime resident of Poth, died on November 21, 1986. A trust fund was established to cover funeral expenses. Donations may be made at the First National Bank of Poth.
The LaVernia Hermann Sons invite members and guests to a noon Sunday gathering at the lodge hall on December 21. Tamales and drinks are supplied and attendees should bring side dishes for the fellowship event.
The annual Polish Christmas Eve Mass will be held at Our Lady of Peace Church in Kenedy on December 24 at 4pm. Rev Tadeus Tabat will be the main celebrant with Msgr Henry Moczygemba and others concelebrating. Saint Marys Polish choir will sing traditional Christmas songs before and during the Mass. Parishioners invite everyone to attend.
Santa will arrive at the Fire house in Canada Verde on Saturday December 20 to take pictures with children. Refreshments will be served. Santa Claus will appear in LaVernia at Los Santos Restaurant from 2 to 4 PM on Saturday December 20. Pictures will be made available or parents may bring cameras.
Roderick, son of Mr and Mrs Walt Roderick of LaVernia, is listed as enlisted in the U S Air Force per Ssgt Mark A Clayton of the Air Force representative in Universal City.
The LaVernia Lions Club hosts a dance on Thursday December 18 at the LaVernia Chamber of Commerce Hall from 8 to 12 to aid local needy families. Donations of canned goods and cash are accepted at the door with all proceeds going to the poor. music by Drugstore Cowboys enhances the event. Airman Roderick from LaVernia High School completes six weeks at Lackland AFB and will pursue Air Force security police training and college credits through the Community College of the Air Force while in basic and technical school.
The LaVernia Community Choir directed by Uree Richter will perform God's Gift of Love on Thursday, December 18 at 7 30 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in LaVernia. Organist Kenneth Wieding will accompany, with donations invited for LaVernia EMS.
Security State Bank of Stockdale closes at 12 noon on Christmas Eve and reopens Friday. Bank of Floresville opens on Christmas Eve but drive in windows close at 3 PM. First National Bank of Path closes at 2 PM on Christmas Eve. Offices of the Wilson County News are closed.
The Path Chamber of Commerce hosts Christmas Caroling at Dilworth Plaza Parkwalk on Monday December 22 at 6 45 PM with church groups and door prizes. Santa arrives December 24 at 3 PM for photos at the Plaza Parkwalk gazebo. Luther League and Temple Emanuel also present live nativity and a Christmas play respectively.
Poth High School 11th graders show a 95 percent mastery in Mathematics and 97 percent in English Language Arts on the Exit Level TEAMS test taken in October. Students must pass both sections to earn a diploma with retakes in May for those who do not succeed initially.
The combined choirs of the First Baptist Church Stockdale invite the public to a Christmas musical The Gift Goes On celebrating the Birth of Jesus Christ. The event is on Sunday December 21 at 7 PM at the church.
