A SPJST lodge dinner is slated for December 14 at 1 p.m. at the lodge hall on F.M. 536. Members should bring a vegetable or salad and a dessert. A meeting and games follow the meal.
The 93rd annual German Christmas Candlelight Service will be at Central Christian Church on North Main Avenue at Romana Plaza. Rev. Arthur von Gruenigen and Dr. Annelise Duncan will lead with Trinity students and local high school participants. the San Antonio Liederkranz will provide choral music. A prelude carillon concert by George Greggory precedes the service. Public admission is free.
The Market Trail notes monthly El Camino Real Market Trail Day on the second Saturday. December events include Festival of Guadalupe in Lytle and Natalia at St Andrews Church and St John Bosco, a Pancho’s Palace dinner theater in Dilley, a Poinsettia Show in Lytle, crafts booths in Castroville, and Cotulla Country Christmas at the AB Alexander Convention Center.
Wilson County Girl Scouts hold a food drive Saturday December 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at First National Bank across from Wal-Mart Super S Foods Dollar General Store and Bank of South Texas. Proceeds aid five needy Wilson County families with nonperishable food and toiletries.
Centre College presents its fall drama Mill on the Floss featuring Hayley Burnside as Mrs. Tulliver. Burnside, daughter of Floyde and Judy Burnside of San Antonio and a 1995 Alamo Heights High School graduate, hails from Catchpenny Farm in Wilson County. The play centers on the Tulliver family facing poverty after a bankruptcy lawsuit. Centre is noted by U S News as a top liberal arts college.

The Trail Ride Committee will hold a tamale sale on Saturday at Wal-Mart to raise funds for the annual ride. Proceeds support Santa Rosa Children's Hospital for Floresville and South Texas children. Tamales priced $3.50 a dozen. donations accepted. Call Bill Stolle or Alene Pawelek for details.
