County officials and VFOs clash over fire protection future
About 41 people filled the Wilson County courtroom to hear a discussion on county fire protection and a turf dispute. Judge Martha Schnabel urged an end to the feud between Fire Marshal R Allan Lovelace and La Vernia Fire Chief Kip Workman as the 911 system rollout and mutual aid agreements were outlined, with Sheriff Joe Tackitt Jr noting county growth requires coordinated fire service across 10 departments. The gathering stressed collaboration to meet new liability safeguards and a computerized three digit emergency numbering grid.
