The FEDC will fund road work and utility extensions for a 150 bed veterans facility with the U S Department of Veterans Affairs covering 65 percent and the state 35 percent. In December a petition with 49 signatures opposed extending 7th Street to the site citing traffic noise litter and safety worries for the east side neighborhood.
Firefighters battled a total loss blaze on Person Street last week as Stockdale's new pumper performed well in its first full run. The fire began July 29 around 11 p.m. and was contained after about 30 minutes with three trucks at the scene. Officials cited an electrical overload as the cause and salvaged some antiques before overhaul. Resident Gary White was out of the house at the time.
