Drought aid aids Wilson and ten counties in Texas
The federal government provides seventy thousand dollars in energy assistance for low income residents and drought relief for farmers across Wilson County and 10 neighboring counties including Atascosa. The program funds help pay electricity bills or buy cooling devices during the heat wave while USDA emergency loans cover drought losses for eligible farmers. Josie Herrera coordinates residential aid through the Immunity Council of South Central Texas and seeks a volunteer to process calls. Applications for USDA loans are accepted through March 23, 1999.
