In Hominy Falls West Virginia 25 coal miners are trapped inside a two mile shaft after a wall of water from an abandoned mine flooded the passage. Skin divers from Philadelphia are due before noon with air supplies and food hoped to reach the entombed men. Rescue crews kept 15 men in contact while 10 at the shaft's deepest end remained unaccounted for as water levels rose and pumps struggled to drain the shaft.
